TRADITION AND MODERNITY IN LA PAZ(1 DAY)
La Paz was founded on the 20th of October 1548 on shore of Río Choqueyapu and is today´s political center of Bolivia. Worth seeing are Calle Jaén, the museum of ethnology and folklore, Plaza Murillo, San Francisco church and the many colorful markets.
ON CHACALTAYA AND THE ZONGO PASS AT THE FOOT OF THE 6.000M-PEAKS(1 DAY, FROM LA PAZ)
The views from Chacaltaya (5.400m) of the Cordillera Real, in particular of the 6.000m-peaks Huayna Potosí and Illimani, and of the Altiplano with Lake Titicaca are spectacular. Passing colored lagoons and a small cemetery a few kilometers far north you arrive at Zongo pass (4.750m) with its milky lake. From here you can walk within 1h to the "Glaciar Viejo", or simply enjoy the view of Huayna Potosí (6.088m).
3.000 YEARS OF HISTORY IN TIWANAKU(1 DAY, FROM LA PAZ)
From the 15th century b.c. to the 12th century a.c. Tiwanaku was one of the dominating cultures in the center of South America. Just before the Incas arrived it disappeared in a mysterious way. You can see the ruins of the ceremonial center with the Akapana pyramid, the Kalasasaya temple and the sun gate as well as a museum with excavation finds.
IDYLLIC, PICTURESQUE TITICACA LAKE(1-3 DAYS, FROM LA PAZ)
The trip to Copacabana and the Sun Island connects nature, culture and mysticism: The blue Lake Titicaca is one of the nicest landscapes of the Andes, pilgrims from all over Bolivia visit the black Madonna in Copacabana and the children of the sun god Inti founded once the empire of the Inca on the Sun Island.

The ample and lonesome plane of Río Lauca with its flamingo lagoons Macaya and Saquewa and the colourful Inca Chullpares (tombs) you visit best within a roundtrip to the National Park Sajama and the salt flats of Coipasa and Uyuni.
THE INFINITE EXPANSE OF THE SALT FLAT OF UYUNI(1-3 DAYS, FROM UYUNI)
The Salt Flat of Uyuni is the largest salt flat world-wide: Over 12.000km² white, islands with fossil coral reefs and giant cactuses and over 5.000m high volcanos on the horizon. On the route over the salt flat you may walk over Isla del Pescado, Isla Incahuasi or Isla Pia Pia, hike to the chullpas (tombs) and the crater of Volcano Tunupa and visit the pre-Colombian ruins of Chijinia, Chulima or Alcaya.

THE NATURE RESERVE E. AVAROA(3-4 DAYS, FROM UYUNI)
Laguna Colorada, Laguna Verde and many other beautiful lagoons with thousands of flamingos, volcanos with hot springs and bubbling spouters: A journey to the fascinating and lonesome landscapes of Nature Reserve E. Avaroa is one of the biggest adventures in Bolivia. During the journey to the lagoons you can also ascend the volcanos Irruputuncu (5.163m and still active), Llicancabur (5.960m) or Uturuncu (6.008m). It is just a 20min drive from Laguna Verde to the Bolivian Chilean border at Hito Cajón (4.450m) and another 2 hours to San Pedro de Atacama, where you can go on excursions to the Salt Lake of Atacama, the lagoons Miscanti and Miñiques, the geysers El Tatio and the Moon Valley. Via Calama and Santiago de Chile you can continue your journey or return home.
CORDILLERA DE LOS LIPEZ - LAND OF A THOUSAND LAGOONS(2-3 DAYS, BETWEEN NATURE RESERVE E. AVAROA, TUPIZA AND UYUNI)
A shower of meteors once came down in the Cordillera de los Lipez. In the countless craters, there are beautiful small lagoons nowadays. Equally fascinanting are the lagoons at the foot of Volcano Uturuncu (6.008m).
A HINT OF ARGENTINA IN TUPIZA(2-3 DAYS, FROM POTOSÍ)
Who travels from Potosí or from Laguna Colorada to the Bolivian-Argentinean border at Villazón/La Quiaca, gets best in the mood of the neighboring country in the surroundings of Tupiza. Red-bright mountains, deep canyons, bizarre rock formations and green Peyote cactuses obtain a hint of Argentina and invite to one-day trips by foot, horse or jeep.
THE SILVER CITY POTOSÍ(1-2 DAYS)
During centuries so much silver and tin were extracted of the famous Cerro Rico that Potosí was one of the richest cities of the world for a long time. Numerous colonial buildings, churches and monasteries testify to a glorious past. The most famous museum is Casa de la Moneda, the former coinage house.
COLONIAL SUCRE(1-2 DAYS)
On the 25th of May 1809 the call for freedom became known in Sucre for the first time in South America. On the 6th of August 1825 Bolivia finally became independent of Spain. Because of its many white colonial and neoclassic buildings Sucre is also called the white city. Interesting museums are the Franciscan monastery La Recoleta, the ASUR museum of indigenous culture and art and the Casa de la Libertad.
AUTHENTIC BOLIVIA IN TARABUCO, LA CANDELARIA AND MARAGUA(EACH 1 DAY, FROM SUCRE)
In Bolivia you can still find people who live their traditions, wear costumes and speak their original language, as in Tarabuco, La Candelaria and Maragua. The here living Quechua are also famous for their excellent weaving techniques.

ON THE TRACES OF ERNESTO CHE GUEVARA(3-5 DAYS, FROM SUCRE OR SANTA CRUZ)
Ernesto Guevara, a doctor from Argentina and beside Fidel Castro leader of the Cuban revolution (1958/1959), tried to transfer the Cuban revolution model to Bolivia at the end of 1966, however without success. On the 8th of October 1967 he was faced by the Bolivian militia in the Churo-Canyon nearby La Higuera and shot one day later. Who wants to follow the traces of Guevara in Bolivia, drives on The Che Route in 3-5 days from Santa Cruz to Sucre (or reverse) through the breathtaking valleys of central Bolivia and visits thereby the places of his arrest and execution (La Higuera) and its burial (Vallegrande).
INCALLAJTA AND TOTORA(1 DAY, FROM COCHABAMBA)
At the beginning of the 16th century Incallajta was an important fortress in the east of the Inca empire. Today it is one of the biggest and best conserved ruins of this time in Bolivia. The colonial village of Totora trembled because of a big earthquake in 1995 but hasn´t lost anything of its charm.
WILD CANYONS IN NATIONAL PARK TORO TORO(2-3 DAYS, FROM COCHABAMBA)
In National Park Toro Toro you see many traces of different dinosaurs, visit stalagmites and stalactites, an own ecological system with blind fishes and bats in the Umajalanta cave and walk through the deep gorge of Toro Toro River.
THROUGH THE COCA FIELDS OF THE YUNGAS(1-3 DAYS, FROM LA PAZ)
The mountain forests of the Yungas are beside the Chapare the second large production area of coca in Bolivia. In the subtropical climate also grow bananas, oranges, papaya, mango and coffee. On the trip to the Yungas you can drive on the famous Death Road (also possible as one-day-excursion by downhill mountain bike), savor coffee made by handcraft on a coffee plantation and relax at the swimming pool of your hotel in Coroico.
